Job Description

The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a probationary track Director - Counseling & ENL.

ASSIGNMENT: District Wide; 11 months per year;

SUMMARY: 

The Director of Counseling and ENL provides strategic direction and oversight for the K-12 counseling and English as a New Language programs, which includes responsibility for program design, implementation and staff development as well as collaboration with district administrators, principals, and instructional staff regarding the implementation of a counseling plan and services that aligns with State standards, evidence-based practices and the District's mission and vision.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Counseling

• Develop and implement professional development opportunities for counseling staff to enhance their skills and knowledge
• Stay abreast of current research and best practices in school counseling and implement evidence-based academic and social-emotional interventions
• Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to create a supportive and inclusive school environment, where all students can thrive and succeed
• Provide consultation and guidance to faculty and staff on programmatic practices that supports students academic, mental health, and overall well-being
• Partner with families and community-based organizations to support student growth, success, success, and post-secondary aspirations
• Utilize data to inform program development and evaluate program effectiveness

English as a New Language

• Collaborate with district and building administrators and building staff regarding the implementation of research based instructional strategies that are direct, explicit, systematic, and designed to meet the unique needs of English language learners
• Work at the district and building level (directly in school buildings) with ENL and classroom teachers, the Director will help with implementing and improving teaching and programs in stand-alone and integrated ENL instruction
• Work directly with school-based staff to ensure scheduling meets CR Part 154 requirements while maximizing staffing
• Coach and mentor ENL and content area teachers in best practices and co-teaching strategies
• Implement parent and community outreach initiatives to increase parent involvement and awareness of the importance of nurturing home language literacy and cultural values
• Oversee and monitor extended learning opportunities for ELLs including summer programming
• Partner with IT to implement the technology needs of the department
• Ensure that all ELLs/MLLs have access to all school curricular and extracurricular programs and are provided an appropriate education that serves their language needs as per CR Part 154

Other Duties

• Assist in preparing proposed budgets for the regular school year and review of school-based budget proposals
• Assist with classroom observations, serving as the independent evaluator
• Attend Leadership meetings 
• Establish effective communication and maintain positive relationships with district administrative offices, students, staff, parents, and the community
• Work collaboratively with all staff to strengthen the instructional program
• Assist the Academic directors in the development, implementation, improvement, and evaluation of the instructional program ensuring conformance to state standards, the District’s mission statement, and Board of Education goals and Policies
• Perform other duties, as assigned.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current New York State Certification as School District Leader or School District Administrator
• Minimum of five (5) years of teaching, preference for experience in either content area
• Two (2) years of experience as a school district administrator, preferred
