Job Description

The Niskayuna Central School District has an immediate opening and is now accepting applications for a Interim Elementary School Principal.

ASSIGNMENT: Rosendale Elementary School; 12 months

Functions of the Elementary School Principal include the following:

• Administer the operations of the elementary school, supporting the vision and mission of the Niskayuna Central School District.

• Schedule, supervise, and evaluate the assignments of faculty and other personnel in the building; provide direction for strengthening instructional techniques and procedures where indicated.

• Counsel with faculty and other personnel in the building on problems related to their assignments or position.

• Participate actively in the Leadership Team and Elementary Principals' Team.

• Recommend to the Superintendent of Schools concerning promotions, terminations, tenure appointments, special assignment appointments, transfers, etc., of faculty members in the building.

• Participate on building level Shared Decision-Making Team.

• Develop, support, and promote activities which will foster positive relationships with parents and others of the public served by the school. Facilitate meaningful involvement of parents in PTO and the Building Steering Committee.

• Maintain pupil personnel records.

• Cooperate in facilitating an orderly transition of pupils from elementary to middle school.

• Assist in curriculum evaluation, revision, and/or development activities.

• Keep the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent informed of the condition and needs of the elementary building and staff.

• Assist in the recruitment and selection of new staff members; provide orientation for new staff members.

• Make provision for proper instruction of all students including those requiring intervention instruction. Facilitate communication between the regular classroom teachers and special education team to support the inclusion of special education students.

• Provide leadership to faculty and other groups within the building. Solicit and support staff development opportunities.

• Establish rules for safety in the building and on the grounds.

• Assign the work of special teachers allotted part time to the building in collaboration with other applicable administrators.

• Responsible for budget development.

• Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment.

• Inspect the building and grounds regularly to assure an acceptable standard of day-to-day housekeeping procedures (e.g.. cleanliness, safety, sanitation); initiate steps for corrective measures with the head building custodian or other applicable personnel when such action is indicated.

• Receive requests for and schedule use of the building after school hours and/or on non-school days within the provisions of district policy and in collaboration with the School Business Administrator.

• Provide placement, orientation, and direction for substitute teachers and maintain reports of their employment.

• Support positive student behavior in accordance with the district Code of Conduct.

• Prepare and submit such reports as may be required for the administrative unit (attendance, enrollment, BEDS, etc.).

• Assist in planning, administering, and interpreting the school testing program.

• Engage in activities to keep informed of current educational thinking and practices and to maintain professional competence.

• Advise in policy formulation and direction.

• Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.

Job Qualifications

Certification as a New York State School Building Leader (SBL).
