Job Description

The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a probationary Athletic Coordinator/Trainer.

ASSIGNMENT: Districtwide; 12 months per year; 40 hours per week.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Under the supervision of the Athletic Director, the Athletic Coordinator/Trainer will be responsible for coordinating wellness opportunities for students and staff, including but not limited to; AED, CPR & First Aid training for staff and students, organizing and coordinating wellness fairs, classes and events for staff, students and the community before, during and after the school day.  The Athletic Coordinator/Trainer will also serve as the certified athletic trainer for the district.  Additional responsibilities include bit are not limited to: supervising the NYS coaching license requirements; coordinating the coach evaluation and appointment process; communicating with coaches regarding player injury status and practice limitations; assisting coaches with preparation of incident reports; assisting in the preparation of the athletic budget; maintaining inventory of medical supplies; and assisting in supervision and staffing of the pool.  Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Coordinate district wellness opportunities for students and staff, including but not limited to:
  • AED, CPR and First Aid training for staff, and students;
  • Organizing wellness fairs classes, classes and events for staff, students and the community both before and after the school day;
  • Develop positive athlete teacher relationship and develop student athlete advisory committee;
  • Assist in supervision and staffing of the pool;
  • Assist with day-to-day management of athletic facilities calendar;
  • Check physicals for sports sign ups and working papers;
  • Communicate with district and community the timeline for sports sign ups;
  • Maintain equipment and medical inventories, supplies, and related items;
  • Prepare and maintain first aid kits for use by coaches of all teams;
  • Assist the Athletic Director with the athletics budget;
  • Coordinate NYS coach certification process, and the hiring and evaluation process;
  • Assist coaches with preparation of incident reports;
  • Supervise the dissemination and collection of official vouchers;
  • Assist the Director or Athletics and/or coaches with any pre or post game needs;
  • Secure facility when contests are complete;
  • Under the direction of the school physician, administer post-injury and post-operative rehabilitation protocols for injured student athletes;
  • Communicate with coaches regarding player injury status and practice limitations, and communicate with staff on return to school protocols for injured student-athletes;
  • Coordinate ambulance or medical personnel if necessary;
  • Assist in developing and/or revising appropriate policies, handbooks, and other athletic/wellness communications

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

  1. National Athletic Training Association Certification (NATABOC)
  2. NYS Athletic Training License
  3. CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor Certification
