Job Description

The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for five (5) TOSA - Instructional Support Coordinators at each of our Elementary Schools.  The positions will be hired as a probationary track teacher in their respective tenure area.

ASSIGNMENT: Elementary Schools; 10 months per year.

The Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) – Instructional Support Coordinator, under the direction of the principal, serves as an instructional leader in the planning, coordination, and administration of school activities and programs.  Duties include supporting curriculum, instruction, student conduct and attendance, extracurricular programs, and school building and safety operations.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs a variety of administrative duties to assist the principal in managing the school
  • Supports daily operations including arrival/dismissal, lunch and recess, and hallway transitions
  • Coordinates support staff schedules and substitute coverage
  • Provides supervision and coaching to support staff in the absence of the principal
  • Assists the principal with administering the code of conduct and fostering positive family engagement
  • Communicates regularly with families and develops a supportive home-school relationship
  • Collaborates with principal and district leaders to implement professional development
  • As directed, initiates/leads professional development opportunities
  • Assists in the implementation of district-wide initiatives i.e., MTSS, SEL
  • Collaborates on building staffing, including recruiting, interviewing and hiring
  • Participates in student/teacher/family meetings i.e., IEP meetings, 504 planning, ENL as needed
  • Supports school-wide events and special programs
  • Role model best practices for teachers, staff and students
  • Promotes a positive school culture
  • Serves as an advocate for teachers, students and families
  • Supports assemblies and field trips
  • Collaborates with PTO and other community groups to enhance the student experience
  • Partners with principal to implement health and safety and emergency planning protocols
  • Performs other duties, as assigned
Job Qualifications

Qualifications include New York State Teacher Certification in grades 1-6, as well as:

  • Preference will be given to certified individuals in Childhood Education 1-6 or Students with Disabilities 1-6
  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience
  • Preference for existing tenured faculty member
