Job Description

The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for a probationary Groundsworker.

ASSIGNMENT: Districtwide; 12 months per year; 40.00 hours per week.

GENERAL INFORMATION: This position involves responsibility for performing a variety of performing a variety of routine, semi-skilled maintenance tasks in connection with the upkeep of grounds around a particular building or park.  The work is performed under general supervision of a superior who outlines policy, with leeway allowed for performing tasks.  Direct supervision may be exercised over one or more subordinate laborers.  Does related work as required.

The position of Groundsworker is a non-competitive Schenectady County Civil Service position. Candidates must meet Civil Service requirements for appointment.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

• Mows lawns and cares for flower beds, walks and drives;
• Trims hedges, trees and shrubs;
• Rakes leaves;
• Shovels snow;
• Cleans gutters and catch basins;
• Removes ashes and tends fires;
• Performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks.
• Performs a variety of related duties as required.
