ASSIGNMENT: Niskayuna High School
Niskayuna High School is considered to be a focal point of the community as a comprehensive high school with a student population of 1,430 students in grades 9-12. Thirteen academic departments offer a rich variety of programs designed to meet the needs of a talented student population. Offerings include 46 honors and 18 AP classes, options for interdisciplinary learning, and a broad range of electives, including nanoscale science and Engineering Technology. There are over 125 faculty members at Niskayuna High School, with 99% holding advanced degrees, including 4 doctoral degrees. In addition, 17 members of our teaching faculty are distinguished as Nationally Board Certified Teachers.
SUMMARY: The Principal is responsible for the administrative oversight and planning all phases of instructional leadership for the school, including educational programming, administration, budgetary planning, discipline, and counseling services.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide quality control for the day-to-day operation of the high school with a student body of over 1400, over 100 professional staff, and 75 support staff members
- Provide direct supervision and leadership for the high school's administrative team
- Provide a direct link of communication between the high school and the District Office
- Meet with all district directors and teacher leaders on a regular basis to set and access curricular goals and initiatives
- Evaluate instruction through the observation and supervision of all professional staff
- Serve as the curriculum supervisor for an assigned department, i.e., Family and Consumer Sciences
- Assist in the development of the Master Schedule and serve as the Liaison for the departments assigned
- Lead in the identification of curricular needs and the decision-making on curriculum change
- Determine staffing needs and procedures to ensure the highest quality staff selection and staff development
- Work collaboratively with staff to develop and plan agendas for faculty meetings
- Supervise and develop the Safe Schools plan and implementation of the SAVE law, and oversee the Safe Schools Plan
- Coordinate the implementation of the annual "Code of Conduct"
- Serve as the "Dignity for All Students Act" coordinator for reports and investigations related to student harassment matters
- Coordinate and conduct building safety procedures in conjunction with New York State recommendations and district policies
- Develop and administer the High School Budget in conjunction with district staff
- Supervise and monitor the academic progress and needs of the Senior Class
- Serve as the lead Administrator for the Senior Class
- Maintain all data related to the Instructional Support programs Including 504 Accommodations
- Work closely with parent and community groups to ensure open communication between respective groups and the high school
- Serve on various building level and district-wide committees
- Represent the high school's leadership team at Board of Education meetings, Leadership Team meetings, K-12 Principals meetings, PTO and PTO Council, and other Parent Meetings as needed
- Represent Niskayuna High School in area associations and organizations, i.e. Suburban Council, CASDA, and BOCES
- Supervise the process of distributing, collecting, and submitting data for the annual BEDS report
- Develop and update the handbook on policies and procedures for high school
- Interpret the obligations related to all collective bargaining agreements and represent the district's interests in resolving any disputes
- Complete the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) process of the observation of classroom teachers as assigned by the Office of Instruction
- Co-supervise support staff personnel in conjunction with the other members of the administrative team
- Assist the administrative team in supervising support staff, including the observation process and end of the year summaries for teaching assistants
- Facilitate the coordination and analysis of all achievement data and provide an annual report to the Superintendent's Cabinet
- Support and promote all student curricular and co-curricular activities
- Complete and submit all documents related to district requirements and New York State mandates regarding the principal's evaluation under the Annual Professional Performance Review process
- Coordinate and update all data related to the history of the high school and lead efforts to establish positive relationships with alumni
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
