Job Description

The Niskayuna Central School District is now accepting applications for School Bus Drivers for the 2023-2024 school year.

SALARY: School Bus Driver $23.79 per hour; Substitute School Bus Driver $23.00 per hour

ASSIGNMENT: Transportation Department; 10 months per year; shifts typically between 4-8 hours per day.

GENERAL INFORMATION:  This position involves responsibility for the operation of a school bus in the transporting of children to and from school related activities.  A School Bus Driver is responsible for the safety and conduct of the children who are passengers.  The work is performed under general supervision with considerable leeway allowed the operator in carrying out the details of the work.  Does related work as required.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

• Possession of NYS Driver's License
• Drivers must be at least 21 years of age and must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the NYS Commission of Education.

All Bus Drivers must meet requirements imposed by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the New York State Education Department (SED) and the Department of Transportation (DOT).  Individuals must posssess a NYS DMV Commercial (Class B) license.  Individuals who do not have a Class B license, may be eligible for Paid School Bus Driver Training.  During the training process, individuals earn minimum wage which is paid after 6 months of driving time.
